Did Three Months Really Go By That Fast??

Hi everyone!  It’s been three months since I last posted…  I can’t begin to tell you how hectic it has been getting a church up on its feet!  I’m tired and my head is spinning, but it’s more than worth it!  We are doing well and I thought that I would take some time to let you know what’s happening at Mountain Valley Church.

I would say that our biggest news is that we have seen five people come to know Christ since we began the church!!  We baptized three already and plan to baptize three more on August 12th in our morning worship service.  I am so blessed to be a part of God’s work!  He has shown us that He is in control and is working in the Montevallo community.

I am also thrilled to have such a wonderful staff helping to plant the church.  Garland Stansell is our Worship Leader and has been with us since February.  He is passionate about worship and leads us closer to God each Sunday through the music.  I am excited to bring on Lance Lee as our Pastor of Family Ministries.  Lance will be responsible for our children and youth and has already hit the ground running!

I have to brag on the Church Planting Team that came with us from Westwood Baptist Church (our parent church).  I can’t imagine trying to do something this challenging without a group of people who are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.  This team has worked diligently since last September of last year to pray, prepare, and implement the vision that God has given us all.

We are pumped about the opportunities for ministry that are coming our way this Fall.  Students from the University of Montevallo will be returning at the end of August and we plan to minister to them as quickly as possible.  We will participate in an information fair and let them know about our new church.  We also plan to help students move in to their dorms.

We are going to have our first Servant Evangelism project this Saturday, August 4th in Montevallo.  We are going to blitz the town with kindness!!  We are serving at the Critters at the Creek event that the Shelby Humane Society is putting on at Orr Park.  We’ll be giving out free doggie treats, doing face painting and animal baloons, helping with registration, and cleaning up doggie poop!  Yes… I said cleaning up doggie poop:)  We hope that it will grab the attention of those attending the event.  We also plan to wash windshields at the event and around town.  We plan on sending a team to the laundry mat to pay for loads of laundry and give away detergent and fabric softener.

Please pray for us as we continue to reach out to our community through acts of kindness.  We pray that lives will be touched and hearts given to Jesus Christ.  Well, that’s all for now!
